Cancellata VOLTA NY 2019, collezionisti e galleristi di New York salvano l’esposizione

Ten days before VOLTA SHOW opening, the City of New York informed Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI), that significant sections of Pier 92—one of The Armory Show’s two piers (traditionally housed on 94 and 92)—were not structurally sound and would therefore not be accessible for their fair to take place. It was decided that The Armory Show would move its Pier 92 exhibitions and activations to Pier 90, leaving VOLTA without a venue.
After this event, in one week, a group made by the collector Peter Hort, the Rema Hort Mann Foundation, the gallery David Zwirner and RiSBE, coupled with support and facilitation by team VOLTA and Quang Bao (1969 Gallery director) to create Plan B.
The show is occurring March 6-9, within the heart of the Chelsea Arts District in Devid Zwirner gallery and in the traditional Paula Cooper gallery. Iler Melioli will show in this second gallery, 534 W 21 St, his biggest installation made for VOLTA – Untitled, 2016, work of installation art, acrylic on canvas, polychrome steel, cm 376 x 150 x 40 – photo follows.

A 10 giorni dall’apertura di VOLTA la Municipalità di New York ha informato Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI) – proprietaria delle due fiere coinvolte – che gran parte del molo 92 – uno dei due moli tradizionalmente utilizzati per L’Armory Show,— non era strutturalmente stabile e perciò non poteva essere agibile come sede espositiva. E’ stato deciso di trasferire gli stand del Molo 92 dell’Armory Show al Molo 90, lasciando VOLTA senza sede.
Dopo i fatti sopra citati, in una settimana un gruppo formato dal gallerista David Zwirner, la Casco Real Estate, il collezionista Peter Hort e la Fondazione Rema Hort Mann, il gallerista Quang Bao ha affiancato Amanda Coulson e il gruppo di lavoro di VOLTA nel creare Plan B. Questo evento si svolgerà dal 6 al 9 marzo nel cuore del distretto artistico di Chelsea, nella galleria di David Zwirner. e nella sede storica della galleria Paula Cooper. Iler Melioli esporrà in quest’ultima sede, 534 W 21 ST, la sua principale installazione realizzata per VOLTA NY 2019 – Untitled, 2016, work of installation art, acrylic on canvas, polychrome steel, cm 376 x 150 x 40 – segue foto.
L’eccezionalità della risposta conferma l’interesse della comunità dell’arte contemporanea per un progetto come VOLTA, che da 15 anni tra Basilea e New York, pone al centro della fiera l’artista e la sua ricerca.
